What is the Basic Input Output System (BIOS)? This site is dedicated to answering that and other BIOS related questions. Every computer has a BIOS. Every BIOS outputs the POST (Power On Self test). Your computer cannot function without a BIOS. Knowing about the BIOS is key to understanding your computer and making it perform at its optimal capabilities.

BIOSMAN highly recommends that if you dont know which flash utility to use check with your motherboard vendors website or purchase a programmed BIOS chip from us!

Recommended Award flash procedures:

awdflash  <name of .bin file>  /py/sn/f/cc/r

*All switches below are necessary when flashing the BIOS

py = program yes
sn = save no
f = flash
cc = clear CMOS
r = reboot

Recommended AMI flash procedures:

amiflash <name of .rom file> /a /b /c

NOTE: the spaces between the /a /b /c are extremely important. Also, programming the bootblock will dis- allow you to use the AMI recovery method. However not using this particular switch seems to cause the BIOS not to update fully. Your choice.. catch 22.

Recommended Phoenix flash procedures:

phlash <name of .bin file>

(there are no switches with Phoenix BIOS.
